Association decides to intensify strike
ITANAGAR, Jan 17: Arunachal Teachers’ Association (ATA) conducted its meeting yesterday regarding the ongoing pen and tool down strike called jointly by ATA and AASSATA in view of state government’s failure to redress its charter of demands i) release of pay arrears of AT (A) and other categories of teachers and immediate regularization of remaining SSA Teachers of 2003 batch in one go.
During the meeting, the house decided that members of CEC ATA and district unit ATA will visit all the schools of districts to intensify the strike. The house further urged the entire district unit’s ATA president, Secretary, Principal and Headmaster to intensify the ongoing strike and added that no academic activities should take place in schools till the state government delivers positive discussion and decision on the teacher’s demands.

DM promulgates prohibitory order
ITANAGAR, Jan 17: Papum Pare District Magistrate (DM), Yupia in an order has prohibited killing of any kind of wild animal, fishing by using explosives and other unlawful means and illegal extraction of forest products within the district. Violators would be prosecuted under Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, Explosive Substances, 1908 and Supreme Court orders, the order said.
All the administrative officers as well as forest officials are instructed to strictly enforce the orders and provisions so as to check such activities in their respective areas. The order was passed following reported killing of large number of wild animals inside the Wild Life Sanctuaries as well as in the village forests by some unwanted elements for consumption and selling in the markets within the district, it said.
“It is also reported by various organizations that illegal extraction of forest resources and fishing by using explosives are taking place within the vicinity which is posing ecological imbalances in the area and endanger to the society,” it added.

72 hrs project site bandh passes off peacefully
ITANAGAR, Jan 17: The 72 hrs project site and administrative offices bandh call by Arunachal Pradesh Job Contract Employees Union NEEPCO passed off peacefully.

ITANAGAR, Jan 17: A meeting was convened by the Parliamentary secretary, PWD at tourist lodge, Bana on January 9 in connection with the land acquisition and assessment of compensation regarding Nechipu to Hoj Road. During the meeting it was decided that Khupi to Ramda will follow the original alignment and compensation assessment will be done by DC Bomdila and the report will be submitted within January 25. However, Reserved Forest Area will be assessed by the forest department so that proposal could be further modified as per MORTH, according to a release received here.

ITANAGAR, Jan 17: Governor of Arunachal Pradesh General (Retd) JJ Singh chaired the 21st Annual General Meeting of North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST) Society at NERIST Campus, Nirjuli today.
Speaking on the occasion, the Governor, who is the President of NERIST Society, said that NERIST graduates should find the pride of place in all infrastructure, power and other projects and industries that are coming up in Arunachal Pradesh in the wake of massive and historical development phase of the State. Engineers of institute should not take the beaten track but come up with innovation and chart their own course. NERIST should be of National standard, he stressed.
The governor opined that as NERIST is an important institute for the North East region, North Eastern Council should cater its needs.
Pointing out its importance to the region, especially for Arunachal Pradesh, he assured the members to raise issues related to the institute with Human Resource Development ministry.
The Governor suggested start of courses or programmes which will benefit the region like structural engineering and food processing. He also suggested for involving alumni of the institute for placement of NERIST graduates.
The Governor felicitated the entire faculty and other members of the NERIST family for their untiring support and contribution towards the institution.

All the state stalls will vie for the best stall award announced by the organizing committee, said Sona, adding all possible steps have been taken to clinch the award.
Chombay was engrossed with the designer to find out in minute details to ensure nothing goes amiss.
“The stall is being designed with ‘The Land of Rising Sun’ as theme and will project the eleven approved tourist circuits of the state in the form of rays radiating from the sun besides the rich cultural heritage of the local tribals inhabiting those circuits,” Chombay added.
All the states have put up two welcome gates each along the national highway from the airport till the venue. The Arunachal gates represented the nature loving Arunchalees’ natural colour showcasing their unique traditional dresses and distinct fabrics. The Arunachal stalls were visibly the most impressive and the best among the eight NE state gates.

Thousands take holy dip in Parshuram Kund
ITANAGAR, Jan 17: Flow of pilgrims continues as about 70,000 devotees, including hundreds of Sadhus from across the country took holy dip in ParshuramKund in Lohit District of Arunachal Pradesh till today on the occasion of MakarSankranti.
Most of the pilgrims were from Nepal, Manipur, and various parts of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, according to Lohit Deputy Commissioner R K Sharma.
About 75000 pilgrims thronged the kund and took a holy dip last year. This year, the number of visitors was little less than that of last year probably due to Kumbh Mela at Allahabad. However, the number of pilgrims visiting the holy kund is expected to be one lakh till the end of this month.
Free food was provided to the pilgrims at the mela site by the Parshuram SewaSamity of Tinsukia, Manav Utthan Seva Samity, Tinsukia, and some other NGOs. Free medical camp was also organized by ITBP, Distt Medical Authorities and Arunachal Pali Vidyapith. Round the clock volunteers to help the old and aged pilgrims and to control the crowd were provided by Vivekananda Kendra and Arun Jyoti, Wakro. The District police authorities made elaborate security arrangements and deployed adequate Police and Para Military Forces. Army also beefed up the security in the area.
All other departments like Forest, RWD, Power and PHED extended all necessary help to make the pilgrimage cosy and comfortable to the visitors. The PHED and Power departments did a commendable job in providing uninterrupted power and water supply. The Athena Demwe power project authorities have also rendered all necessary help and assistance.
The District Administration headed by DC Sharma, Supdt of Police Seju P Kuruvila, Namsai ADC Kamlesh Kr. Joshi, Wakro EAC cum Mela officer DaktoRiba personally supervised all the arrangements. Three Magistrates from Tezu were also deployed.
Because of inflow of large number of tourists and vehicles the police force faced a very tough time in managing them.
ParasuramKund, nestled in the lower reaches of Lohit River in Lohit district of Arunachal Pradesh has been regarded as holy place for Hindu devotees. Exhorting the ladies to give stress on education, the First Lady said, “If every Indian teaches one child, there will be no problem of education in the country”. She advised the ladies to educate their domestic helps to begin from home.

No respite from power crisis for Pasighat residents

The irritated consumers and members of Pasighat People's Welfare Committee (PPWC) lamented that power department officials and low makers are sincere only in giving false promises but they do not understand the plight of common people.
It may be recalled that the people led by PPWC moved the chief minister, power minister and other top ranking power department officials last year seeking their immediate intervention to find a lasting solution to the chronic power problem. As a result, a meeting of the High Level Committee (HLC) led by the state's Power Minister Tanga Byaling was held at Pasighat on June 21 last year. The HLC members assured to improve the power scenario in the area within a period of three months. They further made commitment for early renovation of the defunct hydel projects within three months, but nothing has been fruited so far.
The local people allege that the authority despite observing undue delay in construction of 132 KV tower line from Aalo to Pasighat, is remaining silent over the issue. It was supposed to be completed in 2009, but the construction work is not progressing under mysterious reason. The people mull an unholy percentage sharing of the fund for the undue delay in installation of 132 Transmission Line.

Coordination committee threatens to launch 2nd phase agitation
ITANAGAR, Jan 17: Expressing resentment over the delay in issuing clarification on recruitment policy under special recruitment package sanctioned by the Centre, the coordination committee of Tirap, Changlang and Longding districts Students Unions has urged the local representatives of the three districts to come out with positive response on this matter within January 23 next.
The coordination committee said that it will go for 2nd phase of democratic movement in the form of 48 hrs bandh on 24th to 25th of January at Tirap, Changlang and Longding districts if the concerned representatives and authorities fail to respond within the given time.
Earlier, the coordination committee had approached all the MLAs and Ministers of these three districts many a time with appeal letter and memorandum seeking clarification on recruitment policy on special recruitment package but yielded no results, the committee said.
Informing that that PHQ had postponed the written exam which was to be held on 13/01/2013, the Committee further resented that respective MLAs and Ministers of these three districts did not keep their promises to hold discussion upon the postponed written exam.
Boiled water to prevent many abdominal diseases: SMO
ITANAGAR, Jan 17: Water from any sources for drinking purposes should be boiled for atleast 15 minutes at 100 degree Celsius to prevent many water borne diseases, like cholera, diarrhea, dehydration etc., said Dr. JS Bhowmick, Senior Medical Officer of district hospital Tezu, during a Special Publicity Campaign (SPC) on Health and Family Welfare organized by Directorate of Field Publicity (DFP), Tezu unit at Khoraliang village of Lohit district today.
Dr. Bhowmick also said that many waterborne diseases like Malaria, Dengue, Filariasis and Japanese Encephalitis etc. commonly occur during rainy season from mosquito bites. He suggested the gathering not to throw unused utensils, tyres, coconut bowls, plastic pots etc. in their surroundings as clogged gutters will accumulate water and create a place for mosquitoes to breed. He advised for spraying bleaching powder from time to time in stored rain water as well as surroundings besides using mosquito net to avoid mosquito bites.

Orientation prog on record keeping for SHGs begins
ITANAGAR, Jan 17: A four days orientation course on ‘Record Keeping’ for Self Help Groups (SHGs) commenced at State Institute of Rural Development (SIRD) here today.
Officers and officials from DRDAs, Blocks and SHG leaders from West Siang, East Siang, Upper Siang, Lower Dibang Valley and Anjaw are attending the course.
Nyabin Ete, Director, SIRD in his inaugural address asked the participants to learn the formats of record keeping sincerely in the four days course to strengthen the SHGs in the respective district to further become a members of the federation, a institutions of SHGs under Ajeevika (NRLM) programme. Federation of SHGs would be formed in village and block level under Ajeevika. Without maintaining proper record keeping it is not possible to go up to federation stage. It is going to be a very big project and if implemented as per the project guideline, the entire rural scenario would be changed and maximum unemployment and BPL problems in the rural areas would be vanished, he added.

It is observed that subsidy from Government given as incentive or support to establish micro enterprises are misused, he said and discouraged such practice. However, unlike SGSY, under Ajeevika subsidy system would be discontinued, he informed.

Orgs demand arrest of all accused in Yudik murder case
ITANAGAR, Jan 17: The Action Committee on Lt. Goto Yudik murder case constituted in a meeting of Upper Suabansiri district unit of Galo Welfare Society (GWS) on January 15 last at Daporijo has demanded the state government to hand over the Lt. Goto (Itto) Yudik murder case to either State Investigation Team (SIT) or Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

citizens and intellectuals of the society discussed in details on brutal murder of
Lt Yudik on January 10 at Aalo Bane-
The meeting resolved to appeal all Galo Legal practitioners not to entertain the case of the accused and other involved in the murder as a mark of protest and to show solidarity to our stand as well as to show sympathy to the bereaved family of the deceased.
It further demanded immediate suspension of the Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent of Police, Officer Incharge Police station Aalo and EAC town magistrate Aalo for failing to control law and order problem that led to the broad daylight murder.

As a mark of protest, the members of Upper Subansiri Galo holding executive members in the central committee as well as dist executive bodies GWS have decided to tender resignation en mass. Not becoming the members of central executive committee as well as district executive committee will continue until the fulfillment of the charters of demand placed by action committee before the concern authority.
The meeting also decided to boycott celebration of Mopin Festival 2013 at Upper Subansiri as a mark of protest against the brutal killing of Yudik and to show solidarity with the bereaved family of the deceased. It also appealed to all the Galos residing in different parts of the state and outside the state of Arunachal Pradesh to join in protest movement by not observing the Mopin Festival as a mark of protest against the brutal killing.
The meeting also decided to erect a memory pillar at General Ground Aalo where Yudik was brutally killed and has resolved to demand the district authority for allotment of land at general ground Aalo. At the same time the member resolved to pursue the District Administration, West Siang not to use the General Ground Aalo for any purpose for at least one year.
Earlier, the meeting observed 1 minute silence as a mark of respect to Lt. Yudik and to pray almighty to rest the soul of Yudik in eternal peace in the heavenly abode.
Yudik was a young and energetic leader of the Galo community of Upper Subansiri. He participated in all eight Bane Kebas conducted by Galo Welfare Society at different places. He was one of the active Galo student leaders.
The sudden and untimely demise of Yudik has caused an irreparable loss to Galo community in general and family in particular, the release added.
Delay in arrest of culprits resented
Meanwhile, Galo Students’ Union (GSU) has expressed its strong resentment over delay in arrest of the remaining culprits involved in brutal murder of Goto Yudik by Police Department and the District Administration of West Siang.
“The persons responsible for hatching the conspiracy of murder and indulging in other unlawful activities causing loss and damage to the private and public property are still at large and are a threat to the public peace,” GSU said in a release.
The one arrested in connection with the incident so far was only a part of the conspiracy, and those persons, who instigated the crime is the actual culprits and their arrest is a must, the release said. It hoped that the law enforcers to act responsibly and arrest the remaining culprits without further delay.
While demanding the state government for consideration of its demand placed before it, GSU threatened to launch rigorous movement if the demands are not addressed within the given period.
Liromoba Circle Capital Complex Welfare Society has strongly condemned the Aalo incident that occurred during Galo Bane Keba on January 10 last. While demanding arrest of the culprit involved in the gruesome incident which resulted in death of Yudik, the Society also appealed all Galo brethren to maintain peace and tranquility.
The Society deeply mourned the death of Yudik and prayed to the Almighty God to bestow enough strengthen to bereaved family to bear the irreparable loss.
