Thousands take holy dip in Parshuram Kund

ITANAGAR, Jan 17: Flow of pilgrims continues as about 70,000 devotees, including hundreds of Sadhus from across the country took holy dip in ParshuramKund in Lohit District of Arunachal Pradesh till today on the occasion of MakarSankranti.

Most of the pilgrims were from Nepal, Manipur, and various parts of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, according to Lohit Deputy Commissioner R K Sharma.

About 75000 pilgrims thronged the kund and took a holy dip last year. This year, the number of visitors was little less than that of last year probably due to Kumbh Mela at Allahabad. However, the number of pilgrims visiting the holy kund is expected to be one lakh till the end of this month.

Free food was provided to the pilgrims at the mela site by the Parshuram SewaSamity of Tinsukia, Manav Utthan Seva Samity, Tinsukia, and some other NGOs. Free medical camp was also organized by ITBP, Distt Medical Authorities and Arunachal Pali Vidyapith. Round the clock volunteers to help the old and aged pilgrims and to control the crowd were provided by Vivekananda Kendra and Arun Jyoti, Wakro. The District police authorities made elaborate security arrangements and deployed adequate Police and Para Military Forces. Army also beefed up the security in the area.

All other departments like Forest, RWD, Power and PHED extended all necessary help to make the pilgrimage cosy and comfortable to the visitors. The PHED and Power departments did a commendable job in providing uninterrupted power and water supply. The Athena Demwe power project authorities have also rendered all necessary help and assistance.

The District Administration headed by DC Sharma, Supdt of Police Seju P Kuruvila, Namsai ADC Kamlesh Kr. Joshi, Wakro EAC cum Mela officer DaktoRiba personally supervised all the arrangements.  Three Magistrates from Tezu were also deployed.

Because of inflow of large number of tourists and vehicles the police force faced a very tough time in managing them.

ParasuramKund, nestled in the lower reaches of Lohit River in Lohit district of Arunachal Pradesh has been regarded as holy place for Hindu devotees. Every year in the month of January, (Usually January 14 but this year 15), the devotees from abroad and country thronged the Kund to take a holy dip in the river, and has its own importance.

The legendary beheading of his mother by Parashuram and eventual penance followed by taking a bath in the so called Brahma Kund, has added religious significance to this naturally beautiful ParashuramKund.

The legendary story of ParashuramKund also finds its mention in many puranic texts in different ways. However, it is believed that Parashuram was born to saint Jamadagni and Renuka in Tretayug.

One day, Renuka, after her bath in Ganga was on her way back to the Ashram when she saw the Gandhrava King Chitraratha playing with the celestial nymphs. She felt drawn to the king chitraratha and lost the track of time.

When she returned with wet cloths, frightened and absent minded, it was already time for the mid-day worship in the Ashram. Jamadagni, who was worried over the delay of her returning from her bath, could perceive why she was late.

Jamdagani then became so much furious for this unusual conduct of Renuka that he lost his self-control. He asked his father’s cruel mandate as a dutiful son. He came forward and killed his mother, as he was fully aware of his father’s power of Tapasya. He even killed his brothers because they did not carry out their father’s command.

Here at this Kund, the legendary sage Parshuram gets atoned from his sin of matricide.

Thus, it is believed that if a person takes a dip in the Kund once, his sins would be wiped out forever.

The inflow of pilgrims in large number shows their faith in this holy place which is the main driving spirit in making them travel so long and to face many odds and inconveniences.

Meanwhile, A team from Arunachal Pradesh Energy Development Agency (APEDA) organized exhibition through Mobile Exhibition Van (MEV) during Parsuram Kund Mela from January 12 to 16 to encourage the use of renewable sources of energy. The devotees and public were immensely benefited by the awareness exhibition.

APEDA demonstrate different types of renewable sources of energy through MEV.

No respite from power crisis for Pasighat residents

Correspondent

PASIGHAT, Jan 17: There has been no respite from erratic power supply at century-old Pasighat town as the HLC miserably failed to keep its assurance of solving the problem.

Unscheduled power cut hit-hard on the development of the area for the years. The important Govt offices and other commercial establishments in the district headquarters have to make alternative arrangements of power supply at extra cost. The worst affected are students, many of whom have been suffering a lot during their board examinations.

The irritated consumers and members of Pasighat People's Welfare Committee (PPWC) lamented that power department officials and low makers are sincere only in giving false promises but they do not understand the plight of common people.

It may be recalled that the people led by PPWC moved the chief minister, power minister and other top ranking power department officials last year seeking their immediate intervention to find a lasting solution to the chronic power problem. As a result, a meeting of the High Level Committee (HLC) led by the state's Power Minister Tanga Byaling was held at Pasighat on June 21 last year. The HLC members assured to improve the power scenario in the area within a period of three months. They further made commitment for early renovation of the defunct hydel projects within three months, but nothing has been fruited so far.

The local people allege that the authority despite observing undue delay in construction of 132 KV tower line from Aalo to Pasighat, is remaining silent over the issue. It was supposed to be completed in 2009, but the construction work is not progressing under mysterious reason. The people mull an unholy percentage sharing of the fund for the undue delay in installation of 132 Transmission Line.

The people resent fact that the state government is keeping a mum over the power issue. Chief Minister Nabam Tuki had not made any commitment regarding power problem of the area. Moreover, MP Takam Sanjoy, during his public address here recently made a equation of power supply problem with Maioist backed anti-dam movement. Terming the anti-dam movement a ‘completely a different issue’, the people said that it should be tallied with the power shortage due to technical fault or the authority’s negligence.

Some elected leaders submitted a five-point memorandum to the chief minister during his recent visit seeking additional fund of Rs 20 crore for mitigation of the present power crisis in Pasighat area.

Pasighat town and its adjoining areas have power demand of about 4 MW. But only 50 KW is supplied to the area during peak hours. Presently, power is being supplied to Pasighat from Ronganadi (NEEPCO) project under central sector.

“The persons responsible for hatching the conspiracy of murder and indulging in other unlawful activities causing loss and damage to the private and public property are still at large and are a threat to the public peace,” GSU said in a release.

Global economic growth and developing countries

Four years after the onset of the global financial crisis, the world economy remains fragile and growth in high-income countries is weak. Developing countries need to focus on raising the growth potential of their economies, while strengthening buffers to deal with risks from the Euro Area and fiscal policy in the United States, says the World Bank in the newly-released Global Economic Prospects (GEP) report.

Last year developing countries recorded among their slowest economic growth rates of the past decade, partly because of the heightened Euro Area uncertainty in May and June of 2012. Since then, financial market conditions have improved dramatically. International capital flows to developing countries, which fell 30 percent in the second quarter of 2012, have recovered and bond spreads have declined to below their long-term average levels of around 282 basis points.

Developing-country stock markets are up 12.6 per cent since June, while equity markets in high-income countries are up by 10.7 per cent. However, the real-side of the economy has responded modestly. Output in developing countries has accelerated, but is being held back by weak investment and industrial activity in advanced economies.

Downside risks to the global economy include: a stalling of progress on the Euro Area crisis, debt and fiscal issues in the United States, the possibility of a sharp slowing of investment in China, and a disruption in global oil supplies. However, the likelihood of these risks and their potential impacts has diminished, and the possibility of a stronger-than-anticipated recovery in high-income countries has increased.

Although fiscal sustainability in most developing countries is not an issue, government deficits and debt are much higher today than in 2007.

"To assure resilience to downside risks, developing countries need to gradually rebuild depleted fiscal and monetary buffers, and improve social safety nets and food security," said the report.

Blame game

Dear Editor,

We express our hearty gratitude to Chief Minister Nabam Tuki and Member of Parliament Takam Sanjoy for visiting Aalo on the occasion of Galo Day Cum Galo Bane Keba. Also on behalf of 30th Aalo West Assembly Constituency block, I would like to give the statement as follows in response to the press statement of GSU in a section of daily. The sad incident of Aalo on 10-01-2013 was the sole creation of Galo Students two factions namely Galo Student Union (GSU) and All Galo Student Union (AGSU). Their conflict started much before their conference cum election at Telam. The election for student union concluded with many controversies which resulted into constitution of Fact Finding Team consisting of ten members. Following the submission of enquiry report, the Galo Welfare Society failed to find lasting solution for two factions. This problem unexpectedly cropped up during the Galo Day cum Galo Bane Keba. The GSU has no moral right to demand for the resignation of the parliamentary Secretary, Home as they themselves are the trouble creator instead of trouble shooter. They are to blame themselves for creating social disharmony amongst the Galo Society and they should desist from such kind of press release.

Yours,

Karge Ette

President BCCI

30th Aalo West Assembly Constituency

Poor students sufferer

Dear Editor,

Through the columns of your esteemed daily, I would like to draw the attention of state government towards the on-going pen down/tool down strike launched by the ASSATA /ATA for last many days. It is disheartening to know that the State Government is remaining silent spectator in the going teacher’s strike which is going to affect the academic career of poor students who are studying in Government run schools. Why state government is paying less attention towards human resource development? I would like to mention few points for the advantage to regularization of SSA Teachers.

i) The teacher crises in the state will be minimized. ii)  Poor student will not face hardship due to shortage of teachers in the schools. iii)  Unemployment problem in the state will be minimized.

The state government under the leadership of Chief Minister  Nabam Tuki, Education Minister Bosiram Siram should solve the genuine demands of teachers.

The likeminded organization and elderly citizen of the state should raise the voice. Especially AAPSU, ANSU and other organizations of State and District Student Unions who are welfare body of student community should take up the matter.

Yours’

Taw Raja

D-Sector, Naharlagun

Adi Dev Prajapita Brahma – Harbinger  of culture of peace & non-violence

(On the occasion of 44th Divine Ascension Anniversary of Pitashree Prajapita Brahma, corporeal medium of Incorporeal Supreme Soul – the Light Divine and co-founding father of Prajapita Brahma Kumaris Ishwariya Vishwa Vidyalaya (PBKIVV)

Prof. Jayadeba Sahoo

Saints, savants and sages down  the ages have stressed on the

practice and promotion of India’s age-old gospel of Vasudheva Kutumbakam--essential unity and brotherhood of mankind under the spiritual fatherhood of Supreme Being — as necessary precondition for building a Better World of sustainable universal peace, harmony and happiness. Pitashri Prajapita Brahma Baba was one such leading luminaries who had dedicated his entire life, wealth, time, thoughts and energy in the uphill task of awakening and strengthening divinity in people and society for the world renewal and regeneration of moral and spiritual character and conduct of humankind.

The 18th day of January is an auspicious day in history of mankind. On this day, hundreds of thousands of people all over the globe having association with and knowledge of worldwide institution, Prajapita Brahma Kumaris Ishwariya Vishwa Vidyalaya (PBKIVV) popularly known as Brahma Kumaris will celebrate this day as “The World Meditation Day” to commemorate “The day of Spiritual Ascension” of Prajapita Brahma conveying the massage of universal love, peace and divinity for living together. Prajapita Brahma - Adi Dev (the first man) - the father of humanity and co-founding father of Brahma kumaris World Spiritual University (PBKIVV) attained divine perfection of Angelic state and ascended to eternity shedding his mortal coil on this pious day which brings many memories that becomes sources of inspiration and enthusiasm in persuing the path of spiritual enlightenment and perfection.

Pitashri Brahma who was earlier known to the world as Dada Lekhraj Kriplani, was born to a village school teacher in Hyderabad, Sindh (now in Pakistan) in 1876. Like morning showing the day, righteous qualities like piety, sobriety, religiosity, philanthropy, compassion and concern for the poor, weaker and vulnerable sections of society, were more manifested from the very childhood days of Dada Lekhraj. This peerless person, since very childhood possessed penetrating eyes, pleasing countenance and a many-splendoured strong magnetic personality. As he grew into manhood, he stood steeped in wealth as a diamond merchant and he was lovingly called ‘DADA’ (elder brother).

“Men”, someone has said, “are chiseled by the master hand of social values, commanding the times.” But the metamorphosis in the life of Dada Lekhraj, on whose body Incorporeal God – the Incorporeal Supreme Being of light descended, was brought about not by any socio-physical or economic situations but by certain strange, subtle and divine events that took place in his personal life.

Around the age of 60 by a divine call, he suddenly underwent inner transformation, renounced opulence and became instrumental in giving to mankind revolutionary spiritual principles to establish a value based perfect society with prosperity and a Culture of Peace and Non-violence. The incorporeal Supreme Soul – the Light Divine adopted him as his corporeal medium to reveal Himself as a spiritual Parent of humanity and alchemiesed Dada Lekhraj into Prajapita Brahma – the titular name (which means “The father of Mankind” of the man, through whom Incorporeal God - the Supreme Father of all spiritually created or regenerated the mankind”) conferred on this wonder man by Him befitting his new role of world transformation.

Prajapita Brahma, a man of extraordinary vision, foresight and socio-spiritual reformer had a great compassion for humanity and concern for the weak. He had all the potentialities of rising to be a spiritual edition or Brahmin version of Isac Newton and Albert Einstein.

A Great Visionary & an Able Administrator: He was a great visionary, a sage of an uncanny vision, a for-sighted planner, an able administrator and champion of women empowerment. Seeing far-ahead of his time and societal upliftment through emancipation of women being uppermost in his mind, he empowered women as spiritual leaders and founded Prajapita Brahma Kumaris Ishwariya Vishwa Vidyalaya in 1937, model fed it as a spiritual university and made it into a self-generating & self – sustaining system so that all could get regular and systematic moral and spiritual education.

Neither A Guru Nor God Nor Guru-God: Incorporeal Supreme God – Supreme Being of Divine light adopted him to use his oral oracle to reveal universal transdental truths. He himself also listened to God’s oral revelations and was thus a student and at least, the foremost amongst all students & incorporeal God as his teacher and guide. He claimed himself neither as a Guru, nor God, nor a Guru-God as done by many. Rather he loathed use of such titles to any human being. He considered himself as not God, but God’s vehicle, an old boot, a servant or servitor a ‘khudai khidmatgar’. Of course, he imbibed those teachings fully in him so that his own uttering and doing were a source of inspiration, enlightenment and elevation to divinity.

A Multi-Faceted Many–Splendoured Unique Personality: Prajapita Brahma lovingly called as Pitashree/Brahma Baba was a multi-faceted many splendoured personality with myriad quality. He was a moral colossus with superb intellectual integrity and unparalleled moral excellence. He was a divinity – personified. He had a kind of spiritual magnetism and love-inspiring personality. He was a spiritual genius, a true Rajyogi and Karma Yogi.

He had a blending of harmony and balancing functionality, blending of what is best in east and west, of tradition/orthodoxy and modernity, a happy blend of rustic simplicity and urban manners; clean mind (tabula rasa) of a villager and complexity of nuances and royal dexterity of an urban, sophisticated elite, literati and glitterati. He had all the potentialities of rising to be spiritual edition and Brahmin person of Isac Newton and Albert Einstein.

Unique Freedom Struggle-In the crowded story of freedom struggle, when others were busy in fighting for independence from the yoke of foreign-rule, he, under the stewardship of God directed his efforts for liberation of whole mankind from their subjugation to the inner-enemy i.e. basic six vices. He raised spiritual army of Bharat Mother (girls & woman) to release mankind from iron – claws of maya the sources and the steel claws of negative propensities.

Champion of Woman Empowerment: More miracles in his work are of raising the banner of women liberation from a male chauvinism.  Social upliftment through empowered women being uppermost in his mind; he empowered women as spiritual leaders and founded Prajapita Brahma Kumaris Ishwariya Vishwa Vidyalaya (PBKIVV) in 1937, so that all could get regular and systematic moral and spiritual education. He emphasized the world brotherhood and freeing the human mind from all kinds of biases and prejudices. He raised the status of spirituality from mere ritualism, scripture readings or rigid form of worships to its proud place of purity and enlightenment that joined man to God and uplifted him to a worship – worthy state. His teaching encouraged liberalism and religious tolerance. He elevated spiritualism from a confusing set of dogmas to a rationally valid set of simple and profound principles that could be emphasized and placed before the sophisticated thinkers and scientists of the world auditoria. The Raja Yoga Meditation taught by him is a proved testimony as a powerful means to get rid of mental tensions, harmful addictions and effective tool for holistic health. He preached the brotherhood of man and Fatherhood of one incorporeal God. This is a practical step towards religious harmony, emotional integration and universal Culture of Peace. He taught people to lead a lotus, like pure and happy life of detachment and self control while performing all their worldly duties.

His legacy is the (PBKIVV) otherwise known as Brahma Kumaris World Spiritual University (BKWSU), the largest socio-spiritual organization in the world, headed and managed by women that too successfully.  Having its World Headquarters at Mount Abu, Rajasthan, its stupendous services is being carried out in more than 140 countries presently through a network of over 8500 centers spread across all the continents.

As a non-profit, non-political international NGO, it is affiliated to the DPI/UNO with General Consultative Status(Category-1) in Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) UN, UNICEF, etc. and is respected worldwide for its spiritual and moral education. It is honored with numerous Awards including Peace Medal, six National and one International “Peace Messenger” Award from UNO for its service to humanity in the field of values and peace education. In recognition of selfless and yeomen service of Prajapita Brahma to establish a value based better society, even Government of India has released a commemorative postal stamp on Prajapita Brahma.

This is a “standing testimony to the fact that God himself has come into his life and has made him instrument for preaching the correct path” – says R. Venkataraman, the then President of India. To sum up the words of Justice Krishna Iyer, Judge, Supreme Court of India (Retd.) “Prajapita Brahma into whom a divine presence descended was a radical proselytizer of bad people into good through a super process of Raj Yoga Meditation (Supreme Communion) beyond all religions and theologies. He left devotees’ particular faith unmolested but used the distilled essence of all the great teachings of prophets to a new awakening of souls”

Prajapita Brahma’s message for all: “ Purity is the mother of peace and prosperity. For purity in thoughts, words and actions, Be Holy and Be Raja-Yogi.”

To complete his assigned role of world transformation, he left his mortal coil on Saturday 18th January 1969 to overcome his physical limitations and is still engaged in the service of humanity with God speed in Angelic form.
